WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR APPOINTMENT

Your first appointment will begin with a detailed consultation where we will discuss your symptoms, health history, lifestyle and any factors that may be affecting your wellbeing.

A physical assessment will then take place, including observation of your posture, movement and mobility, as well as appropriate clinical tests.

Following the assessment, I will explain my findings and discuss a personalised treatment plan with you. This may include:

  • Hands-on treatment

  • Advice on movement and daily habits

  • Exercises to support your recovery

  • Recommendations on how to manage your condition

The number of sessions required varies depending on your individual situation and how your body responds to treatment.

If your condition requires further medical investigation or if osteopathy is not the most appropriate approach, I will recommend that you consult your GP or another healthcare professional.

Most patients who are suitable for treatment will receive care during their first appointment.

Appointments usually last approximately 45 minutes. Additional time can be arranged if required.

IS OSTEOPATHY SAFE?

Osteopathy is generally considered a safe form of treatment when provided by a registered osteopath.

Some patients may experience mild soreness, tiredness or temporary discomfort after treatment. These effects are usually short-lived and resolve within 24–48 hours.

Before treatment, I will discuss the benefits, possible risks and the most appropriate approach for your individual needs. Treatment techniques are always adapted according to your health, preferences and clinical assessment.

CAN I SEE AN OSTEOPATH EVEN IF I DO NOT HAVE ANY PAIN?

Yes. Many people visit an osteopath when they are experiencing discomfort, but osteopathic care can also support people who want to maintain good movement and body awareness.

Our bodies constantly adapt to the demands placed upon them, including stress, physical activity, posture and lifestyle. Regular movement, healthy habits and appropriate care can help support your overall wellbeing and reduce the likelihood of recurring problems.

The frequency of appointments depends on your individual needs and goals.

IS OSTEOPATHY SAFE DURING PREGNANCY?

Yes. With postgraduate training in women’s health from the Molinari Institute of Health, I provide a personalised approach to support women during pregnancy and post-partum.

Pregnancy involves significant physical and hormonal changes as the body adapts throughout each stage. Some women experience discomfort such as back pain, pelvic discomfort, rib tension, hip discomfort or changes in mobility.

Treatment during pregnancy is adapted to each woman’s stage of pregnancy, health history and individual needs, using appropriate gentle techniques and advice to support comfort and movement.

Following birth, osteopathic care can also be adapted to support women as their bodies recover and adjust to the physical demands of caring for a newborn.

WHAT IS CRANIAL OSTEOPATHY?

Cranial osteopathy is a gentle approach used by some osteopaths as part of their wider osteopathic practice. Despite its name, it is not limited to the head; it considers the relationship between the head, the body and the way different areas of the body function together.

It can be used with people of all ages, including babies, children and adults, depending on the individual’s needs and clinical assessment.

During an osteopathic appointment, cranial techniques involve gentle hands-on contact and are integrated with other osteopathic approaches when appropriate. Your consultation, assessment and treatment plan will always be tailored to your individual situation.

As with other areas of osteopathy, research into cranial osteopathy is ongoing, and evidence varies depending on the condition being considered. For this reason, cranial techniques are used as one of the tools within a broader osteopathic approach rather than as a standalone treatment.

If cranial osteopathy is appropriate for you, I will explain the approach and ensure you are comfortable before any technique is used.
